Alden Road, 14626

Robert grew up in Bainbridge, GA under racist Jim Crow policies. Good jobs were hard to find. When he turned 18, he spent three days on a bus and followed his brothers north to Rochester. It was 1968 and they’d found jobs at Xerox and Kodak. Robert got his first job through Manpower and then moved into an apprentice program at Gleason Works.

Eventually Robert ran a gas station and a car dealership. He got his Commercial Driver’s License and delivered goods to all 50 states in the contiguous US. He raised a family that now includes grandchildren.

Robert bought this house 12 years ago. He put six months of work into it before moving in, but it was still freezing cold in the winter.

He could feel the wind blowing when he sat in his living room but did not have the resources to make additional repairs. The condition of his home before he worked with PathStone and Town of Greece GRIP was unsafe and uncomfortable. It needed a new roof, extensive work to replace electrical hazards, weatherization of windows and doors, hot water heater, furnace, dehumidifier, insulation, air sealing, aging in place health and safety items like handrails, and a new sump pump. The bathroom was gutted due to significant mold accumulation that was causing respiratory distress. The mold was a result of the poor drainage and insufficient ventilation and plumbing in this 1.5 story home with no basement.

Now, Robert’s home is warm and comfortable and he welcomes family, friends, and guests to visit.
